Rules

The purpose of the Footy NYC Soccer League is to provide women and men, ranging in skill levels from beginning to advanced, with an opportunity to play competitive soccer in a safe and friendly environment.  All participants  are expected to display good sportsmanship throughout the entirety of the league. Footy NYC will not tolerate unsportsmanlike conduct, verbal or physical assault and dangerous play.

***This is a recreational league and we will not be giving away multi-million dollar contracts at the end of the league.

Footy NYC will strictly abide by the following:

1. League & Eligibility

  • Footy NYC leagues are open to anyone over the age of 18.
  • All players must be registered on the team roster to be eligible to play.
  • All players must sign a liability release waiver prior to any participation Footy NYC games.
  • Any player ejected from a previous Footy NYC league is not eligible for any proceeding Footy NYC leagues.

2. Roster

  • Men’s ( 7 v 7)
    • A 7 v 7 match will have a maximum of 7 total players on the pitch at once. The goalie accounts for the 7th player on the pitch.
    • A minimum of 4 players must be present at kick-off
      • If the minimum is not met, three (3) points will be awarded to the opposing team
      • If both teams do not meet the minimum, both teams will not be awarded any points
    • All players on the team must have matching color Footy NYC league shirts. The goalie must wear an alternative color shirt at all times.
  • Men’s ( 11 v 11)
    • An 11 v 11 match will have a maximum of 11 total players on the pitch at once. The goalie accounts for the 11th player on the pitch.
    • A minimum of 7 players must be present at kick-off.
      •  If the minimum is not met, three (3) points will be awarded to the opposing team
      •  If both teams do not meet the minimum, both teams will not be awarded any points
    • All players on the team must have matching color Footy NYC league shirts. The goalie must wear an alternative color shirt at all times.
  • Coed ( 7 v 7)
    • A 7 v 7 match will have a maximum of 7 total players on the pitch at once. The goalie accounts for the 7th player on the pitch.
    • A minimum of two females must be on the pitch throughout the entirety of the game.
      • Teams with one female on the pitch must play six players throughout the game
      • Teams without any females must play five players throughout the game
    • A minimum of 4 players must be present at kick-off.
      •  If the minimum is not met, three (3) points will be awarded to the opposing team
      • If both teams do not meet the minimum, both teams will not be awarded any points
    • All players on the team must have matching color Footy NYC league shirts. The goalie must wear an alternative color shirt at all times.

3. Game Rules

  • For 7 v 7 games, the following rules will be followed:
    • No off-sides rule.
    • No slide tackling.
    • Fouls will result in an indirect free kick.
    • Fouls in the penalty box will result in a penalty shot to the opposing team.
    • Free kicks must be taken with a minimum of 5 feet of free space.
    • Goals must be scored with a two player touch minimum.
      • No goals will be offered off of corner kicks, goal kicks or throws
    • Substitutions can occur at anytime and are unlimited.
      • Player subbing out must be completely off the field before the replacement player steps on the pitch
    • Harsh fouls and intentional handballs will result in yellow cards. Two yellow cards will result in dismissal. from the league game. In the event that a play results in a direct red card, the player is removed for the remainder of the game and suspended for the next match.
    • All foul decisions will be made at the discretion of the referee.

 

4. Standings

  • All league standings will be determined using the table system. Each team will face all other teams in the league. The following will be awarded based on the results:
    • Win    =  3 points
    • Draw  = 1 point
    • Loss   =  0 points
  • Total points and goal differential will determine team standings in the table.
  • At the end of the season, the top four teams will play a one day playoffs where the semi-final and final games will be played. All top four teams will play a semi-final, third place game and final game.

5. Schedule

  • Schedule will cover games against all league teams.
  • One bye week per team, bye weeks can be used as a date for a rescheduled game.
  • No make up games for forfeited games.
  • Inclement weather will cause some games to be cancelled and rescheduled. Footy NYC reserves the right to schedule a double header game or a make up game at a later date which can be scheduled on an alternative week day.
